Clarence is a member of the Six Nations Confederacy –Cayuga, Wolf Clan. He is 38 years old and has been carving traditional false face masks for more than 20 years. Recently he has carved these faces into large sculptures called “tree masks”. Both Dorothy and Clarence have taught their sons, Todd and Craig to carry on the family tradition of woodcarving.
Clarence has worked under the tutelage of Darvis and Gene Thomas, the sons of the late Chief Jacob Ezra Thomas, Master Carver of Iroquois masks. Chief Thomas is the father of Clarence’s wife, Dorothy.
