Birth Date:

Quaraq Nungusuitok, born on May 18, 1986, in Iqaluit (formerly Frobisher Bay), Nunavut, is a prominent Inuit carver renowned for his dynamic sculptures that capture the essence of Arctic wildlife. At the age of 13, Quaraq began carving using hand tools, learning by observing his father, the esteemed carver Tukiki Manomie. Quaraq is the biological son of Mary and Titi Curly. He was adopted by Tukiki Manumie and his wife Eliakamee Nuntok, both influential figures in the Cape Dorset
art community. This adoption aligns with traditional practices in Cape Dorset, where artistic talents are often passed through adoptive families. Quaraq primarily works with serpentine stone, chosen for its rich colors and suitability for detailed carving. His sculptures predominantly feature animals, especially walking bears, reflecting his deep connection to Inuit cultural themes and the natural environment. Gallery Exhibitions: Quaraq's work is featured in several galleries, including Steinbrueck Native Gallery and Inuit Gallery of Vancouver, highlighting his prominence in the Inuit art scene. Craft Ontario: His sculptures are showcased by Craft Ontario, an organization dedicated to promoting contemporary craft, further establishing his reputation in the art community. Through his evocative sculptures, Quaraq Nungusuitok continues to contribute significantly to the rich tapestry of Inuit art, drawing inspiration from his heritage and the natural world.
