Nelson McCarty is part of the Thompson Nation. He is a member of the Lytton First Nation in British Columbia. In his early carving career Nelson studied with well known artist Gino Seward. He has developed his own style of carvings and corks constantly on perfecting his art while he develops new designs. Nelson’s wife Terri is also an artist.
Nelson McCarthy is an Indigenous artist, originally tutored by his uncle, Tjupurrula. He is known for his unique style within the Western Desert art movement, particularly his ability to depict multiple Dreamings within a single work. He became a leading talent in the second generation of Western Desert artists and gained international recognition.
