Sampson (Sam) Robertson was a celebrated Kwakwaka'wakw artist from Kingcome Inlet first nation, Vancouver Island, BC. He specialized in traditional Northwest Coast carving and painting, particularly on cedar boxes and masks.
A dedicated mentor, Sampson Robertson passed his carving knowledge on to younger family members, including his niece Sarah and brother Alfred Robertson.
Renowned for his finely crafted bentwood and lidded boxes—often adorned with beaver designs and rich, vibrant colors—his work stayed true to ancestral methods while reflecting masterful artistry.
He also created striking Sisiutl-style cedar masks, deeply rooted in Kwakwaka'wakw spiritual and symbolic traditions.
