AMOS RYLAN

Cultural Group:

Birth Date:

Birthplace: Mowachaht Band - Nuu-Chah-Nulth

Rylan Amos was born on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He is from the Hesquiat Band of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth nation.
In his teen years, he began to learn carving techniques by working with his father, Patrick Amos and his stepfather, grandfather, both well-known northwest coast artists.
Rylan carves carefully incised lines in his masks and sometimes adorns his work with braided cedar bark and detailed painting.
Rylan has been represented in many group shows featuring northwest coast masks. In the summer of 2000, the father-son team of Patrick and Rylan had an exhibition at Gallery Indigena, Stratford. At that time, they completed a totem pole in the front of the gallery.
