TAM WINNIE

Winnie Tam was born in Hong Kong, and came to Canada in the early 70's. She received her undergraduate degrees ( B.A. , B.Ed. ) in Philosophy, and Art Education respectively from University of Alberta, Edmonton, and McGill University, Montreal. She also obtained a graduate diploma in Vocational Education from McGill University in 1984. A passionate lover of the arts and the great outdoors, Winnie lives with her papillon and works happily in the Kitsilano area in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Twice nominated for gold medal by her faculty, Winnie was also the recipient of the James McGill Award (University Scholar), and the Betty Jacque Travelling Scholarship from McGill University in 1985. She then further her studies in porcelain at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, U.S.A.

Pottery had been Winnie' s hobby for 14 years before it became her major in her professional training as an art teacher. Winnie's pottery instructors included famous potters Norburo Kubo, Sam Urlik and Richard Selfridge. She also enjoys painting, drawing & photography.

While she was working as a high school teacher for 7 years, Winnie further her graduate studies in Art Therapy at the Toronto Art Therapy Institute.

In 1988, Winnie decided to become a professional artist, and started her own line of unique handcrafted porcelain jewelry. Her work is now showing at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, Audain Art Museum in Whistler and Polygon Art Gallery, British Columbia, Cadada. It had also been shown at The Canadian Museum of Civilization and The George Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts, as well as many museum gift shops, art galleries, boutiques, and gift shops across Canada.
Winnie' s work has been collected by many individuals around the world. Her other hobbies include films, audio books, music, choral singing, sea kayaking, downhill skiing, canoeing, hiking, cycling, and traveling
