SILVER Eric

Eric Silver is an Indigenous artist from the Oneida Nation (Ontario), recognized for his expressive and highly detailed soapstone sculptures. Born in 1984 and a member of the Bear Clan, Silver began sculpting at the age of nine, developing his artistic practice within a community deeply rooted in creative and cultural traditions.
Growing up surrounded by Indigenous art and influenced by fellow artists, Silver cultivated a distinctive style characterized by fluid movement, realism, and intricate craftsmanship. His work often reflects themes drawn from nature and Haudenosaunee cultural heritage, capturing animals and spiritual forms with a strong sense of motion and vitality.
Today, Eric Silver is regarded as one of the most promising contemporary Iroquois sculptors. His carvings are noted for their dynamic energy and emotional depth, contributing to the ongoing evolution of Indigenous art while remaining grounded in traditional knowledge and identity
