We are thrilled to announce our recent acquisition of an outstanding collection of Abraham Anghik Ruben sculptures. The opening of this exhibition will be at Gallery Indigena, in Stratford, Ontario on Saturday, November 18.
Abraham is a celebrated contemporary Inuk artist who masterfully integrates the legends of two cultures, the Inuit and the Viking to create unique and exquisite carvings. He has a deep interest in the ancient relationship between the Inuit and the Viking Norse, particularly the similarities in their practice of shamanism.
In Anghik’s own words:
“As a storyteller, I have sought to bring life to these ancient voices from a time when these two northern people held a reverence for the land and for all living things therein that provided sustenance and survival”.
Abraham has been recognized with the Order of Canada. His works are showcased worldwide in over 400 corporate, private, and museum collections; to name a few, the Smithsonian Museum, the WAG, the AGO, and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC.
Anghik’s artistic genius is undeniable – each of his sculptures, a masterpiece, intricately crafted with attention to detail and deep meaning. Our current collection features marvellous works, providing a rare opportunity for art enthusiasts to own a piece by this creative artist.
